Being Specific With Your Goals

To have the life you want to have the life you deserve, you have to have goals and you have to work every day toward your goals.

Now that January 2009 is at an end, it is time to evaluate those goals that you set at the end of December 2008.

If you are still working your New Year's Resolutions then congratulations! But, if you are like most people, you have long ago forgotten or given up on your goals.

Generally the problem lies in the original procedure in defining the goals. You have to be specific with the goals. It is one thing to say that the goal is to lose sixty pounds of body weight but it is quite another thing to say that the goal is to lose sixty pounds of body weight by walking after dinner every night for thirty five minutes. The second way is much more specific and gives a plan of action that can be followed and gauged. The second way is also open ended. When the every night walking is gauged to be working but not well enough to lose the desired body weight in a reasonable amount of time a second specific action can be added. For example on the weekends a stationary bike ride could be added to the plan.

These are, of course, just random examples to help illustrate the point of the article. No matter what the goals happen to be, they will be much easier obtained if specific, easily followed and easily understandable.

To have the life you want you have to have goals, they need to be worked on everyday and they need to be specific.

If you have given up your goals, do yourself a favor and pull the list out and write them again, this time be specific.
