Mindfulness and Humor - Celebrating Belly Laugh Day

My friend Elaine Helle in Oregon thought it would be fun to give the whole world something to laugh about.

As a laughter yoga teacher--her personal tagline is "Laugh for the health of it!"--she knows the power of a good belly laugh. And so, she started Belly Laugh Day, which will be celebrated around the world on January 24th at 1:24 pm local time.

On this day, people everywhere will pause in the middle of a busy day to smile, throw their hands up into the air and laugh out loud.

This isn't just one of those holidays that somebody made up and nobody honors. This one actually has coordinated silliness scheduled in places all over the globe. People will gather--or stop where they are at work or school or home--and laugh hard and long at the appointed time. Laughers will send in stories, photos and videos of their Belly Laugh experience to share with others on Elaine's website.

I've always said that if you're not laughing, you're not learning. Can you get through an entire day without laughing? You shouldn't. You see, there's power--and wisdom--in lightening up. If hours go by without a guffaw or at least a giggle, you're not allowing yourself to see the silliness all around you.

Oh, I know there are days when it doesn't seem possible to laugh. After all, terrible things do happen. But on 99 percent of your days, you've got a dozen reasons to laugh.

And the other 1 percent? Trust me on this: those are the days during which you are MOST in need of laughter!

I've laughed at the bedside of someone who is dying. I've howled while holding hands with someone who has tried (unsuccessfully) to kill himself. I've giggled even when I felt I couldn't take another day of life in this world.

Thank goodness.

You see, that's the tipping point. When you can laugh while smack in the middle of a crappy day-- or a real tragedy--you know you're going to be okay. You've tapped into the secret of the Belly Laugh.

Elaine knows the secret, and she's not whispering it. Instead, she's shouting it from the virtual rooftops, engaging gigglers from the North Pole to Antarctica.

Let Belly Laugh Day on January 24th remind you of the value of seeing the silliness all around you. Open your eyes and find something to smile about every HOUR.

What, you can't spare five seconds every waking hour? Then you SERIOUSLY need to lighten up-- or, as I like to say, get En*Lightened.

Yes, laugh out loud on Belly Laugh Day, but don't stop there. Make it your personal mission to have a laugh every hour.

You'll be happier, healthier, and a whole lot more fun to be around.

3 Tips For Beating Low Self Esteem Immediately

Allow me to begin with a simple illustration of how 'low self esteem' feels like.

An eight year old boy told his mother one day," Mummy, I've done studying Math. I think I'm not going to make it."

The mother, obviously concerned with the statement said," Son, why are you saying this? You should be more positive about this test..."

With a weary look on his face, the boy finally musters all his might and told the mother,"Ok Mummy. I'm positive about this test. I'm positive that I WILL fail the test!"

Did you 'feel' the boy's low self esteem? Even if this illustration were too simplistic, the message was not: low self esteem is devastating. So here is 3 tips you can immediately apply to beat low self esteem.

Tip 1: Pause, and think," How did I manage this successfully last time?"

Low self esteem is an emotion. And it took place subconsciously. It is proven through extensive Psychological research such as in the field of Neuro Linguistic Programming, it is possible to control emotion by interrupting its pattern with conscious 'emotional-related' question, like Tip 1.

It is good to know that subconscious mind respond to conscious mind, and for the question above, subconscious mind will search the database for previously successful experience. The outcome of it? It will evoke the same emotional response it used to have. In this case, it's confidence ("I've successfully handled this before.").

Low self esteem beaten immediately.

Tip 2: Drop whatever that you are doing

It is likely that you will produce the same response of low self esteem if you continue with your current course of action. The better way to handle this, immediately, is to stop whatever you are doing and to take different action.

For instance, if studying math lower your self esteem because you seem to make mistakes every step of the way then stop! Take a nap. Go out and take a brisk walk. Anything. As long as you don't just sit and crank your head try to figure out everything.

Tip 3: Pay attention to your physic.

'What is your body tries to tell you?'

I was provoked by one of my trainers during a session. She challenged me, "Grin from ear to ear, round up your eyes, jump up and down, and try to feel sad. Can you 'feel' it?" I have to confess that it was harder than trying to find a needle in a haystack.

So, whenever you look down, your eyes glaze left and right looking for exit or you speak extra fast just to let everything out, pause. Raise your chin up. Look at the person in the eyes (don't stare though), ask question and respond to the question one at a time. Can you experience low self esteem if you did all these?

These are three tips I pers774onally use myself whenever I'm facing with situation that has the potential to push me to experience low self esteem. What I like the most about these tips is that, I'm in total control in using them. No outside apparatus or special condition needed before I begin using them. That's a big help because I can never tell when those situations will pay me a visit.

'Always be prepared.'

Can you imagine having a surefire insurance against low self esteem which you have total control over it can do to your motivation, and performance, be it personal or business? What else can you achieve if you have higher self esteem? You can choose to use tips on how to have higher self esteem, and hide your low self confidence area until it becomes unbearable. Or you can beat low self esteem and raise your esteem level along the way. Which one works best for you? And if you want another 3 effective tips to immediately beat low self esteem, you can find it at: http://beatlowselfesteem.wordpress.com

Is Procrastination Destroying Your Financial Dreams?

I have a big problem with procrastination. I keep putting off important tasks and this is affecting my finances. I hadn't paid income taxes for several years and I was happy when I heard of the tax amnesty. I delayed getting an accountant to sort things out and now I have to pay significant penalties that could have been avoided. I also lost out on renting the perfect office space because I didn't act fast enough and someone else jumped on it. My life is littered with missed opportunities caused by me dragging my feet. What can I do to cure this horrible habit?

Don't worry - you are not alone in your procrastinating habits. I too have experienced that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach after missing out on a great deal or the chance of a lifetime just because I took too long to take action.

Almost everyone procrastinates on important issues, whether it's starting an exercise programme, clearing away clutter, or doing homework. However, when the delaying tactics have to do with money, then procrastination can bring tremendous personal and monetary cost.

Rita Emmett, in her book The Procrastinator's Handbook - Mastering the Art of Doing It Now, notes that "procrastination can take a surprisingly high toll on your life, causing stress, illness and low self-esteem." In addition to these negative effects, Emmett continues, this time-wasting habit "keeps you from attaining your goals and fulfilling your dreams."

How many of us are living lives of quiet despair, feeling frustrated at not being able to buy our dream house or car; feeling guilty for not having money to pay for our children's college fees; feeling panicked at the realization that we'll never be able to stop working as we never saved enough money? For many of us, our distress is not due to the lack of ability or money, but due to the failure to organize our time and efforts to complete the necessary tasks to achieve our goals.

Why do we practice this self-destructive habit anyway? How can we have extremely important things to do, yet agonizingly continue to ignore them?

One reason for persistent procrastination is that you may be dreading the process that may be involved in accomplishing the task. Your accountant needs all your business records to file your tax returns on time, yet you ignore the pile of bills stuffed in the desk drawer, because you hate to think of the work that will be involved.

"The dread of doing a task uses up more time and energy than doing the task itself," Emmett reveals. Many jobs that we live in fear of tackling can actually be completed quickly once we get started. Organising your bills can be a breeze if you immediately place receipts into files with different headings.

Another frequent excuse for delay is that you don't have the time to get the job done. You never have time to balance your cheque book or reconcile your bank statements, so you don't know how much money is in the account, and live in fear of writing a bounced cheque. The reality is that balancing a cheque book takes seconds if you update it after each purchase.

Emmett explains that you must first realize that the job probably won't take as long as you think. Then she recommends breaking down longer jobs by devoting one uninterrupted hour at specific times until the task is completed. After starting, Emmett insists that you will no longer be daunted by the project and that the momentum may keep you going until it is all done.

"One of the most important lessons in conquering procrastination is that what you dread most isn't spending time and energy on the whole job, but simply getting started," declares Emmett.

There are other tasks that get delayed because you think you'll have plenty of time to do them - later. You're in your twenties and would like to own a home one day, but you procrastinate on starting a savings plan because you think should live it up a little first. Big mistake! Time is your greatest asset when you're trying to achieve financial goals.

If you start saving J$5,000 per month when you're twenty years old, and receive a net interest rate of six per cent per annum, you will have over J$800,000 in time for your thirtieth birthday. Delay your savings plan until you're twenty-five, and you'll only have about J$350,000 when you're thirty.

Resist the temptation to procrastinate on savings by being very clear about your financial goals and the reason why they are important to you. Write down what you would like to achieve and set deadlines for accomplishing them. With the help of a financial advisor decide on an action plan and start saving immediately and consistently with automatic deductions.

There are many other reasons why you may put off important financial tasks - you might be fearful, lazy, or too disorganized to get going. As a recovering procrastinator myself, I encourage you to find a system that will help you to conquer this debilitating habit, so that you can take charge of your financial destiny.

What is Goal Setting and How to Set Your Goals

Have you ever wondered what goal setting is and what it can do for you? To make it simple, goal setting is the process of writing down something you want to achieve in your life. So what can a goal can do for you? Think about it, if you desire to be rich, and you constantly see your goals, will you remind yourself to take the necessary action to make your goals come true?

Of course you will, and this is what goal setting can do for you. A goal can help you to stay focused in taking action. The moment you saw your goals on your desk, you will remind yourself, you will tell your mind that you have a mission to accomplish, and therefore you will be driven into taking action. That is why goal setting works and many people achieve what they want from setting their goals.

The question now is, how can you set your goal? It is easy to set your goals, as long as you write them down, put them somewhere you can often see, like on top of your desk, beside your bed etc. What goals you set is not important; the key here is the habit of doing it. However, make sure that your goals contain these criteria below:

1. Have a specific deadline. Every goal that you set must have a deadline. A goal without a deadline will remain dream. It is the deadline that will create the sense of urgency so that you will take more action to achieve it.

2. Set specific goal. Your goals must be as specific as possible. If your goals are not specific, it will be hard for your mind to sink in the information. When your goals are clear and specific, you sent clear message to your mind of what you want, and your mind will do the rest.

3. Set high and interesting goal. The more interesting your goals, the more they can drive you into taking action. Think about it, is $1,000 will motivate you more or $100,000 will motivate you more.

4. Take at least 3 action steps toward your goals right after you set them. This is what many people do not do. If you want to keep yourself driven and keep your momentum going, you have to take action steps every single day, even if it is just a small step.

There you go, I believe that now you are cleared with what goal setting is and how you can set your goals. If there is one thing that you can do to make you successful today, it is goal setting. So take the first step and write down what you want to achieve now.
